Summary.

The bill amends paragraph b of subsection 1 and paragraph b of subsection 3 of Article 8 of Law 58 of 1998. Both provisions describe the boundary between La Pintada corregimiento (district), the seat, and El Potrero corregimiento (district), within the district of La Pintada. Article 8, as reproduced in the bill, places that district within the political and administrative division established by the law for the provinces of COCLE, HERRERA, LOS SANTOS and VERAGUAS. It also lists the district’s seven corregimientos: La Pintada, El Harino, El Potrero, Las Lomas, Llano Grande, Llano Norte and Piedras Gordas, and identifies the settlement of La Pintada as the district seat.

In describing the boundary from La Pintada corregimiento toward El Potrero corregimiento, Article 1 begins at the summit of cerro Guacamaya, on the boundary with the district of Penonomé. It draws a straight line northwest to the source of quebrada El Cuarto and follows that stream downstream to the point at UTM WGS-84 coordinates E 558 150m and N 944 OOOm. From there, another straight line runs northwest to the point at UTM WGS-84 E 557 375m and N 945 375m, on the summit of cerro Colorado.

From cerro Colorado, the route continues northwest along the ridge dividing the waters of río Potrero from those of quebrada Boquilla. It passes cerro San Francisco and cerro Picacho before reaching the summit of loma Potrellano. A straight line northwest from that summit reaches the confluence of quebrada Palomo and río Potrero.

The same article describes the boundary from El Potrero corregimiento toward La Pintada corregimiento in the opposite direction. It starts at the confluence of quebrada Palomo and río Potrero and runs southeast to loma Potrellano, passing cerro Picacho and cerro San Francisco. It follows the watershed ridge to cerro Colorado and passes the UTM WGS-84 points E 557 375m and N 945 375m, and E 558 150m and N 944 OOOm. It then follows quebrada El Cuarto upstream to its source and ends with a straight line southeast to the summit of cerro Guacamaya.

Article 2 expressly identifies the two provisions of Article 8 of Law 58 of 1998 that the bill would amend. Article 3 provides that the proposed law would take effect on the day following its promulgation. Given its territorial subject matter, the bill concerns public administration in the district of La Pintada, as well as communities and activities located along the boundary between the two corregimientos.

What it proposes.

  • A territorial description using geographic features and UTM WGS-84 coordinates.
  • An amendment to the political and administrative division set out in Law 58 of 1998.

Who it would affect.

  • La Pintada corregimiento.
  • El Potrero corregimiento.
